What is Reiki?
Reiki derived from the Japanese words rei (universal) and ki (life energy), is a gentle healing practice based on the belief that a vital life force flows through all living beings. When this energy becomes blocked, imbalanced, or depleted, it may manifest as physical discomfort, emotional stress, or mental fatigue.
Reiki practitioners work to restore the natural flow of energy, supporting the body’s innate ability to heal while promoting deep relaxation, balance, and overall well-being.

This healing method was developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, a Japanese spiritual teacher. Through meditation, study, and spiritual practice, Usui rediscovered this ancient healing technique and established the Usui Reiki system, which emphasises compassion, mindfulness, and harmony as essential elements of healing. His teachings continue to form the foundation of Reiki practice worldwide today.
What to expect during a Reiki session?
For first-time clients, the session will begin with a consultation to discuss individual needs and an explanation of what to expect. You will then lie down comfortably on the treatment table, fully clothed.

Reiki is given through gentle hand placements a few centimetres above the body. Many people notice a comforting warmth almost immediately.
Each hand position is usually held for a few minutes, or longer where additional Reiki is beneficial, before moving on to the next area. If there are specific aches or areas of discomfort, these can be addressed first so that the treatment feels beneficial from the outset.

Once settled on the table, there is no need to turn over during the session. Remaining in one position helps maintain deep relaxation, and Reiki can be directed to any area of the body regardless of position. If remaining seated is preferred, this can also be accommodated.
